The Window Covering Manufacturers Association and American National Standards Institute issued a new safety requirement for window treatment products. ANSI/WCMA A100.1-2022 is a voluntary criterion that gives new guidelines for window treatments that “reduce the possibility of injury, including strangulation, to young children from the bead chain, cord, or any type of flexible loop.”
Beginning June 1, 2024, window coverings sold in the United States need to follow this safety standard. The majority of products will come in cordless designs. Treatments that have a continuous loop must include a compliant tension device to keep the loop from becoming a strangulation hazard. These requirements will notably reduce the number of window treatment cord injuries and fatalities among toddlers.
